Michael Jackson’s 12th #1- he would end up with 13. It was a big one not only in the US but all over the world. The final #1 song of 1991.
My quick take on it is I think it was a boring, over-produced single and Michael… well, he got weirder and less talented as he got older and his face morphed. HOWEVER, I will say that he tried on this song, the message in it was good and I recall Weird Al saying Jackson had agreed to let him parody some of his songs but he refused on this one, because he was proud of it. I can’t put that down at all.
Can’t disagree Dave. About this time the crazy became sadly obvious, but the vid and song were edgy at the time.
My first impression of the song back then was that it was a product of Jackson’s inner turmoil–similar to what he was doing with his physical appearance.
