100 Great Songs From The British Invasion: 1963-1966: The Last Time- The Rolling Stones. ‘The Last Time’ was The Rolling Stones 5th Top 40 hit in the United States and 2nd Top 10. It would be their next single- a little ditty called ‘Satisfaction’ which would be the single that blew the lid off- and The Rolling Stones would then become the superstars we know them as today. ‘The Last Time” was the first song written by the Stones to be released as an A-side single in the UK- and became their 3rd #1 in the UK. The Stones in the refrain borrowed from The Staple Singers 1954 song ‘This May Be The Last Time’–and the song recorded in Hollywood, California also has a Phil Spector Wall of Sound production quality- and for reason- the troubled genius Phil Spector himself assisted with the production. The b-side- Play With Fire- cracked the Hot 100 at #96.

In 1967 after Mick Jagger and Keith Richards were imprisoned on drug charges- The Who recorded a single ‘The Last Time’/ ‘Under My Thumb’- with the idea of helping to raise money to get the Glimmer Twins out of jail- but by the time the single was released- Mick and Keith had been sprung. A nice gesture.

  1. Thanks for all of the good work that you do, especially this one. I also appreciate your likes of so many of my prior Revelation articles. When I finish the Revelation articles, I will begin a series of articles on the Daniel prophecy, which will tell us how we got to Revelation.

  2. Great riff opening the song. I had no idea that Spector was involved in this disc. The Last Time gave the Stones the chance to step away from the 3-chord blues influenced music. This one made them legit even more than Satisfaction. When my band dissolved in 2019 after 20 years, we were still playing Satisfaction and The Last Time. The geezers and most of the young-uns loved the songs. Titanium knee and hip joints are the best thing to happen for dancing to the oldies.

  3. I really appreciate your internet friendship, and the likes that you put on my posts. Your work is very good, and I encourage you to continue with the same degree of excellence that you put into all of you work. Please consider how your articles may affect other people, people who live around the world, and that, unfortunately, you will probably never meet. Still, you bless people with you facts and ideas, and will bless even more, as time progresses.
