The Doobie Brothers had a hit in 89? Never would I have guessed that.
I was going to say the exact same thing – I assume no Michael McDonald either?
No I don’t think so…it was the first guy….or I call him the Black Water Guy.
Tom Johnston was the main guy for the earlier stuff like ‘Long Train Running’ and ‘Listen to the Music’. Pat Simmons sang ‘Black Water’ – he was pretty much second banana through the band’s entire tenure.
That is his name…I remember now. Well you taught me something there. Even my nick name was wrong.
the song sounds pretty generic- not a big fan of theirs but they did better in the 70s
I was amazed they were together…much less a hitmaker in the 80s
Ah, Summer of ’89! Good times!
Um, I actually kind of like “The Doctor” by the Doobies, though I agree their ’70s music was the best. And, yep, it was Tom Johnston who had rejoined the band in 1987 for their reunion tour that led to their permanent reformation.
The outfit on these charts I’m less fond of are Fine Young Cannibals. They were completely overexposed on the radio back in Germany and literally drove me crazy! 🙂
I do agree with you about other tunes, Hans, e.g., “I Won’t Back Down”, “My Brave Face” and “The End of the Innocence” are all great! Milli Vanilli? Not so much!
