I never understood Barry Manilow’s popularity in the 70’s- but then again- this is an artist who in the 70’s Frank Sinatra said of “He’s next.” Bob Dylan stopped Barry at a 1988 party- hugged him and said “”Don’t stop what you’re doing, man. We’re all inspired by you.” Anyway he wasn’t terrible- his songs were pleasant and middle of the road and not offensive to anyone. He had a 25 Top 40 hits from the mid 70’s to mid-80’s. I wouldn’t want to sit around and listen to him but I guess if one of his songs came on the radio I wouldn’t change the station either. I only do that if The Eagles come on. This was his third and final #1.
I was a lukewarm fan in his early days, and did like some of his music. This was one of his better songs.
He had his moments.
I didn’t love everything he put out but, I did like him. He was an incredible songwriter. He put words to Bandstand.
