The Beatles Top 60 Solo Songs: #25: “Helen Wheels”- Paul McCartney and Wings. Released as a stand alone single- “Helen Wheels” which peaked at #10 in the Billboard Hot 100- was not included in the British version of Band On The Run but was added on the the American version of the album. Paul had a remarkable run of great singles in the period of 1972-76 and I while I have a handful of them still to come on this countdown- “Helen Wheels” has always been a favorite. Paul could still rock.
Here is what Paul later said about the song-
“Helen Wheels is our Land Rover. It’s a name we gave to our Land Rover, which is a trusted vehicle that gets us around Scotland. It takes us up to the Shetland Islands and down to London. The song starts off in Glasgow, and it goes past Carlisle, goes to Kendal, Liverpool, Birmingham and London. It’s the route coming down from our Scottish farm to London, so it’s really the story of the trip down. Little images along the way. Liverpool is on the West coast of England, so that is all that means.”
Hans I like this one. It rocks. Like Laines licks.
That was a great era for Paul post- Beatles.
The one after was pretty good. Your right. Just my opinion man.
I like expressions with double meanings.
