Ray Stevens had 4 Hot 100 singles in 1970- only one of them made the Top 40- and that went all the way to #1 “Everything Is Beautiful.” Stevens is remembered mostly for that song and novelty songs like “The Streak.” I have never found Stevens to be even slightly amusing but many over the years have found him humorous. I dunno- after hearing “The Streak” twice I’d had enough. I remember the ‘made for television’ record he was selling a few decades ago… and while over the years I have [for a dollar} picked up those sold on television records sold by Slim Whitman, Boxcar Willie and Roger Whitaker- I’d never been tempted to pick up the Ray Stevens one. A dollar saved is a dollar earned.
I had to smile because I agree with your assessment of this artist’s work. I enjoyed your post.
Glad I am not alone! I know some people think he’s hilarious.
Pretty bad.
