Ranking Every Billboard #1 Hit from 1976. 1975 and 1976 were not great years for #1 hits. There were 26 #1 hits in 1976. When the Bay City Rollers nearly make the Top 10 you know its not a great year.

2-“If You Leave Me Now”- Chicago
1- “50 Ways To Leave Your Lover”- Paul Simon
That is a bad year – even the Simon #1 isn’t one of my favourite by him. Ive always enjoyed Don’t Go Breaking My Heart though.
I agree- I was surprised that I had it at #1 because it wouldn’t be in my Top 10 Paul Simon songs I don’t think…
All those songs are at least enjoyable. The ones by Steve Miller, and the ’60’s old timers are especially good. I’ve always heard that the Bay City Rollers an exceptionally good band, who played bubble gum because they wanted to appeal to that kind of an audience
I’m quite nostalgic for a lot of that music, in some ways it was a fine time in my life, but there were a few dogs in the pack to be sure. Though ‘Afternoon Delight’ to me is FAR better than that darn duck!
Disco Duck; now there’s a song that got you up off your butt and moving!
Okay – so youre moving AWAY from the sound…
It’s (uhhh) good comedy relief in a world gone mad.
***So you want to know about my musical interests? – well… it’s complicated
do tell…
With sooooo much music out there – there is no doubt that not even one song would be ‘liked’ by every person.
(I happen to like Bay City Rollers – well… just a couple of songs anyway)
Keep on keeping on!
Your “work” is appreciated.
I may poke fun at them but Saturday Night is a pretty good song.
My Top 5 of the #1s would be:
1. Love Hangover
2. If You Leave Me Now
3. You Should Be Dancing
4. Silly Love Songs
5. Don’t Go Breaking My Heart
Songs that should have been #1 hits that round out my Top 10 for 1976:
Lowdown by Boz Scaggs
Do You Feel Like We Do (live version) by Peter Frampton
(Don’t Fear) The Reaper by Blue Oyster Cult
Fooled Around and Fell in Love by Elvin Bishop
Sara Smile by Hall & Oates
To me this playlist is nauseating pablum!
The mid-70s were not very good.
Disco Lady and Disco Duck…e-gads.
