Girls! Girls! Girls!- “Suzanne”- Leonard Cohen. “Suzanne” was the first song on side 1 of the first Leonard Cohen album back in 1967. Released as a single it did best in France where it peaked at #3. Pitchfork ranked “Suzanne” at #41 in their Top Songs Of The 1960’s list. The song was inspired by Cohen’s platonic relationship with Suzanne Verdal who was the girlfriend of sculptor Armand Vaillancourt.
That album reminds me of being at home in my parents flat waiting for Sunday dinner to be ready… I love it
Happened to be listening to So Long Marianne when this post popped up. Love, love, love Leonard Cohen. 🙂
That’s a great Leonard one which I could have easily selected also!
Can’t explain it but this version gives me chills. Something about his fragility makes it incredibly poignant.
What a great songwriter- and I believe in his case his singing/voice got even better with age.
One of my favorite Cohen songs.
