Girls! Girls! Girls! -“Sweet Jane”- The Velvet Underground. “Sweet Jane” written by Lou Reed- appears on The Velvet Underground’s fourth album-and final album Loaded. A great guitar track- Rolling Stone ranked it in 2004 as the #335 on their Greatest Songs Ever list. Lou was attempting to write a ‘hit’ single- while it certainly should have been a hit- it wasn’t. The Velvet Underground never a big selling band-but a highly influential one.
Keep ’em coming!
It’s a massive hit with me
This is one of those songs that has HIT written all over it- a should have been #1.
and those ladies, they rolled their eyes.
335!? – how odd.
A friend of mine, who used to be a columnist for “Stereo Review” back in the day, recently did an analysis of all the “Sweet Jane” covers he could find. It’s astonishing how many people, across various genres, have recorded the song. Long-time favorite for me.
