Hans Remembers- Thursday November 5, 1970- 50 Years Ago.

  • The Roman Catholic Church’s Congregation for Divine Worship announced a continuance of the tradition that barred women from serving as acolytes to assist the priest during services but in following the reforms from the Second Vatican Council that concluded in 1965- directed that women could allow non-Gospel scripture during mass, lead the congregation in singing, and perform other tasks.
  • Javy Lopez was born 50 years ago today- the three time all-star catcher played from 1992-2006 mostly for the Atlanta Braves before finishing up his career with the Baltimore Orioles and Boston Red Sox.
  • Former baseball pitcher Charlie Root died at 71. A very good pitcher- he won 201 games during his career with the Chicago Cubs from 1926-41- what is he remembered for- he was the pitcher who gave up Babe Ruth’s ‘called shot” in the 1932 World Series- Root always insisted that Ruth didn’t call the shot.
