Wilbert Harrison released this as a single back in 1962- and it failed to chart -but in 1969 his reworked version hit the Top 40- #32- a year later Canned Heat’s cover did even better #26. Canned Heat had two big hits from 1968- “On The Road Again” #16 and “Going Up The Country” #11.
Canned Heat were a blues-rock band from Los Angeles. A band that knew tragedy- Bob “The Bear” Hite died of a drug related heart attack at 36 in 1981- a decade earlier Al “Blind Owl” Wilson died of a drug overdose 1970 at 27.
