Sun Sounds- “Honey Don’t”- Carl Perkins. “Honey Don’t was written by Carl Perkins and produced by Sam Phillips was recorded at Sun Studio in December 1955 and released as the b-side to “Blue Suede Shoes” in January 1956. It is another of the songs of Carl Perkins that was later covered by The Beatles- which is how I first heard it. It was one of the last songs that The Beatles recorded in late 1964 for their Beatles For Sale album. It is a song that The Beatles had long covered in concert- with John Lennon singing- but on the record its Ringo singing. Over the years “Honey Don’t” has been covered by a couple dozen artists.
Sounds like an Elvis tune also. Carl Perkins is one of those unsung heros I need to learn more about.
Carl was awesome! I love how much influence he had on guys like Elvis and groups like The Beatles. The Fab Four’s versions of Honey Don’t and Matchbox are among some of my favorites!
More Carl goodness.
I have one more Carl before we close out October.
