This is a chart oddity- it was the highest debuting single the week of October 3, 1970- and it hung around in the Hot 100 for 18 weeks but failed to make the Top 40- #41 is the highest it got. Ray Charles Robinson was born in Albany, Georgia in 1930. He was raised in Greenville, Florida. Blind since the age of 7. Pound for pound he could be the greatest singer of the 20th century- he was a master at every genre of music. From 1957-2005 he had 76 Hot 100 singles with 33 making the Top 40.
