Hans Remembers- Friday September 18, 1970- 50 Years Ago.
- A dark day in rock history- one of the greatest guitarists of all times- Jimi Hendrix died in London from an overdose of sleeping pills. Hendrix was only 27 years old. He had used amphetamines the night before, went to the Samrkand Hotel with friend Monika Dannemann- and took nine pills from her prescription of the German medicine sleeping pill Vesparax- whose recommended dosage was half a pill. He was dead on arrival at St. Mary’s Hospital in London at 11:45 am-from aspiration and asphyxiation. The 1960’s-70’s -a bad era for rock stars and drugs.
- I don’t remember this one- Andy Griffith was back on television with a new series- Headmaster- a drama comedy- and finished third in its time slot. The show lasted but 14 episodes- even Griffith would later admit to it being a very bad show.
