The Kinks- a rock band from London were led by the Davies brothers- Ray and Dave. From 1964-84 they had 23 Hot 100 singles and 12 Top 40 singles. Their biggest hit was “Come Dancing” #6 in 1983. “Lola” was one of their most memorable singles- the story of a young man who has a possible encounter with a possible transvestite in a club in Soho, London.
My favorites. Interesting that the sleeve photo you show has “Berkeley Mews” as the b-side (mistakenly called “Berkeley Men.”) That must have been the UK version. We Yanks would get that song a couple of years later on the Kinks Kronikles compilation.
I was surprised to hear that Come Dancing was their biggest hit. I didn’t like it much.
I liked it but I agree they had much better songs in their career which should have been bigger hits. Odd how that works sometimes.
Who counts the votes AND who watches the watchers?
Excellent song.
Ace Frehley just released a new covers album yesterday and this was one of his songs. The Kinks do it way better.
Hey, I think you know how I feel about this one. Ray a head of the curve as usual.
