Born Morna Anne Murray in Springhill, Nova Scotia, Canada in 1945- Anne Murray was a high school teacher for a year before her career in music took off. From 1970-88 she had 28 Hot 100 Singles with 11 making the Top 40. Her biggest hit was “I Needed You’ #1 in 1978. Elvis once said that his favorite song was “Snowbird.”

  1. Up in Canada, it seemed like it was almost an alternate national anthem in the ’70s! Canadian kids my age learned early who Queen Elizabeth was and who Anne Murray was!
