There was something annoying to me about Mac Davis- never cared for him. That aside. Davis wrote this song when his recorded company demanded that he write a song with a ‘hook.” I will give credit where credit is due- he did write “In The Ghetto” for Elvis, a great song.
I still love this song.
I quite like it though ‘In the Ghetto” is far better! Looking back, it was remarkable a country song like that was getting played on AM hit radio with Elton John, Deep Purple and Temptations… part of what made that era great musically.
I remember this from way back and also remember having a crush on this cutie after hearing it 🙂
To me he was always someone you wanted to punch in the face.
