The Carpenters were a brother and sister duo of Richard and Karen Carpenter from New Haven, Connecticut. From 1970-82 they had 29 Hot 100 singles with 20 making the Top 40. The first half of the 70’s were their most successful period. “Close To You” was their first Top 40 single. Overall they had 3 #1 hits- “Close To You”, “Top Of The World” 1973 and “Please Mr. Postman” 1974.
