During the first half of the 1970’s Tony Orlando and Dawn were a constant hit machine with their adult contemporary -inoffensive -light weight music. It boggles my mind to think this single sold 6 million copies. It wasn’t only popular in the US but all over the world. Looking at the #1 hits in 1971 a very odd year- some gems and some garbage. “Knock Three Times” is far from the worst #1 hit–it would hit rock bottom with the song which replaced it on top. In comparison “Knock Three Times” isn’t so bad.
I temporarily lost my mind in early 1971, as I actually bought this 45 single. Now I think it’s pretty insipid and agree with your grade of C.
You can admit to buying it! I like that. I have a few in my collection like that also.
And it’s not even a guilty pleasure, but simply a case of bad taste!
The eighties is my first stop for choice music… but the seventies – had a lot of great music as well.
This was cool when I was a kid.
