The Beatles Song of the Day is The Long and Winding Road. The Long and Winding Road is on The Beatles Let It Be album. It was written by Paul McCartney. The production of the song by Phil Spector makes it one of the most controversial Beatles recordings-Paul hated the overdubs that Spector put on the song. This is a song Paul really worked hard on- he viewed it as another potential “Yesterday.” It wasn’t that but it would become The Beatles 20th and final #1 hit in the US. Paul has over the years released other versions of the song- most famously on Let It Be..Naked where he erases Spector’s production and goes with the simpler instrumentation. Paul has said that he drew inspiration for the song while visiting his farm in Scotland. Paul offered the song to Tom Jones on the condition that he release the song as his next single, Jones turned it down since his record company already at a single ready to go. Beach Boy Brian Wilson has said this is his favorite Beatles song. A great song and very timely considering The Beatles had reached the end of the road. Not necessarily a great recording of the song on Let It Be- but the greatness of the song wins out.
