Hans Remembers- Sunday April 12, 1970- 50 Years Ago.
- The New York Yankees honored two of their all -time greats- center fielders Joe DiMaggio and Mickey Mantle by dedicating plaques to them at Yankee Stadium. The plaques were located in center field and would eventually be moved to Monument Park beyond the left field fence. My Mount Rushmore of New York Yankees- very easy to pick- Babe Ruth/ Lou Gehrig/ Joe DiMaggio and Mickey Mantle.
- Taking place for the first time in Alabama- a major NASCAR event- the Alabama 500 at the Alabama International Motor Speedway at Talladega. Pete Hamilton who won the Daytona 500 earlier in the year also came away the victor after Buddy Baker the leader of the race was forced out by a wreck with 13 laps to go.
