B.B. King was at a peak in popularity as far as the charts go in the late 60’s early 70’s. Born Riley King in Itta Bena, Mississippi-his big break was moving to Memphis in the late 40’s when he became a fixture on Beale Street in Memphis. Overall B.B. had 35 Hot 100 Billboard singles with 6 making the Top 40-his biggest hit “The Thrill Is Gone” came in late 1969. He would have 3 Hot 100 singles in 1970- all failed to crack the Top 40. B.B. King was part of the second Rock and Roll Hall of Fame class in 1987.
B.B. has a distinct sound, immediately recognizable. I remember listening to him in the late 70s. One of my old boyfriends was a fan.
The dual attack, guitar and vocals. I like this cut. I love the way his guitar bites.
Most of the time I can tell it’s B.B. just by hearing his guitar.. he’s got that sound which sticks out.
Like the first notes of this tune. Instant BB.
