- There was an assassination attempt on the President of Cyprus- Makarios III- when a team of assassins in Nicosia riddled the presidential helicopter with machine gun fire as it was lifting off from the roof of Nicosia Palace the president’s residence. Makarios III escaped injury.
- Former NFL place kicker Jason Elam who kicked for the Denver Broncos and Atlanta Falcons in a career that lasted from 1993-2009 and was selected to three Pro Bowls- was born on this day in Fort Walton Beach, Florida.
- The American artist Waldo Peirce- nicknamed ‘The American Renoir”- died at the age of 85.
I looked up Waldo and found this interesting article on him that focuses on his 4 wives and how they shaped his art: https://www.portlandmonthly.com/portmag/2018/08/so-much-more-than-waldos-wives/
Thanks for sharing- interesting article. I hadnt seen that.
You’re welcome. I just finished reading it. He sure had an interesting life.
Artists seem to lead interesting lives.
I never cease to be amazed at how I come back to this stuff and see something new – obviously as an adult. I do remember the Cyprus moment.
