I Love The Smell Of Punk In The Morning- “Lust For Life”- Iggy Pop.
Iggy Pop was a punk pioneer in the late 60’s-early 70’s as the front man for The Stooges. This song released on Iggy’s album in 1977 Lust For Life- was written by Iggy and his friend David Bowie. The song was written on a ukulele. It was produced by Bowie. The comedian Soupy Sales sons- Hunt played drums and Tony played bass on the song. Those drums sure do set the pace. The Doors Ray Manzarek and Doors manager Danny Sugarman have said that the opening lines of the song are about their deceased heroin dealer. While the song wasn’t a hit- over the years it feels like it was- featured in many movies and commercials. This is one of those songs whose acceptance has grown with time- I don’t recall ever hearing it on the radio or television when it came out but a decade or so later… It has also been a much covered tune- even by the likes of Tom Jones!
Excellent choice, Hans. Iggy has a libido-soaked rebel spirit that I love.
In the late 70’s I would have never thought Iggy would still be going strong 45 years later. He seemed on a road to destruction. .. I may have mentioned it before but when I started teaching there was a kid in my class who looked like he could have been Iggy’s son- he was even called Iggy- and Iggy wasn’t as well known back then as he is today. You just don’t see many people who look like Iggy!
LOL
I love that pic of Iggy. What a nice looking boy.
I think Iggy had the choice of being a punk icon or a pretty boy model type- and decided on the former.
That was because he wouldn’t do as he was told at the model job, plus he kept cutting and hurting himself.
(You might be getting a wee nod in my next take)
