464. ” Baby It’s You”- Smith. Dunhill. Pop. Written by Barney Williams, Burt Bacharach and Hal David. B-side:”I Don’t Believe {I Believe} Peaked at #5 and spent 15 weeks in the Hot 100. A Pop group from Los Angeles Smith had 3 Hot 100 hits in 1969-70-this was their only Top 40 hit. This song had been recorded earlier in the decade by The Shirelles and was an album cut for The Beatles. Grade: A

465. “Carry Me Back”- The Rascals. Atlantic. Pop. Written by Felix Cavaliere. B-side:”Real Thing” Peaked at #26 and spent 8 weeks in the Hot 100. The third of three Hot 100 singles for the Rascals in 1969- all made the Top 40 but none of them were huge hits. Grade: C

466. “Make Believe”- Wind. Life. Pop. Written by Joey Levine. B-side:”Groovin’ With Mr. Bloe.” Peaked at #28 and spent 9 weeks on the chart. In the books this single is filed under Tony Orlando- the only such hit credited to Wind. This was before Tony Orlando and Dawn’s assault on the Pop charts in the early 1970’s. Grade: C

  1. This version of Baby It’s You was played in Tarantino’s movie, “Death Proof”. I recognized it right away. You have to admit that this version is smokin hot and may possibly be better than The Fab 4’s version.
