“Time To Play B-Sides”- “Hey, Hey, What Can I Do” Led Zeppelin. Led Zeppelin was never much of a singles band- they were an album rock band. In their career in the US they had 10 Hot 100 singles with 6 of them making the Top 40. Their most famous song “Stairway To Heaven” which everyone has heard at least a million times on the radio was never released as a single. “Immigrant Song” was released as a single from Led Zeppelin III and went to #16. Meanwhile “Hey, Hey, What Can I Do” the b-side became a collectors item because it was never released on a regular Led Zeppelin album. It was the only non-album track released by the group before their break-up in 1980. “Hey, Hey, What Can I Do” didn’t become available on an album until 1990 when it was released on the 4- CD Led Zeppelin box set. Led Zeppelin never performed the song in concert. Maybe because it has been so underplayed on the radio- it ranks as one of my ten favorite Led Zeppelin songs.
That & Ramble On are my two faves.
Good ones
It’s worthy of being in your top 10.
I had to wait for the boxed set, prior to that I had a mate with the singles and listened to that.
Those were the difficult days- today if need be most everything is a click away. Who would have thought back then.
Yes, and I hated cassette tapes, so thrilled when CDs came, then as you say, cometh the net!
The cassette era was terrible! I agree!!
I mostly liked that you could tape things, but they usually mangled or distorted.
I enjoyed making mixed tapes- for some reason it seemed more creative than doing the same on a CD. Took more effort I guess.
Yes, they were popular in my circles too, it must be that you felt as if you’re doing something, effecting something.
