- At Abbey Road in London George Harrison records one of this greatest songs- “Here Comes The Sun” with The Beatles. Paul and Ringo were present but John was still hospitalized recovering from a car accident in Scotland. “Here Comes The Sun” would be released on The Beatles Abbey Road album on September 26th.
- The House of Commons in Canada approved the Official Languages Act and French joined English as one of the two official languages of Canada.
- Twenty-one coal miners were killed in a methane gas explosion 22 miles west of the capital at Taipei.
- Born on this day hockey great Joe Sakic- in Burnaby, British Columbia, Canada. Joe Sakic played in the NHL from 1988-2009 for only one franchise the Quebec Nordiques/ Colorado Avalanche team. He was named as one of the 100 greatest hockey players ever. Sakic scored 625 goals and had 1016 assists during his career.
