The Sounds of Summer- Day 17 of 95- “Misirlou” Dick Dale. This is surf rock. Some folks think The Beach Boys when they think of surf music. The Beach Boys may sing about surfing in some of their songs but that isn’t surf music. Dick Dale who passed away in March at the age of 81 was known as “The King Of The Surf Guitar.” Dick Dale never had any hits on the pop charts in his career. “Misirlou” never made the Hot 100- but “Misirlou” which Dale once played on The Ed Sullivan Show- is one of the best known surf rock songs. The song was used in Pulp Fiction in 1994 and it helped to gain Dale a new audience. I saw him in concert a couple times in concert in the late 90’s and while I am not a big fan of instrumental rock music for the most part- Dale was incredible.
I was part of that new audience in 94’…love this track
Me too. He was awesome at the end of the show he says- anyone wants to meet me I will be back by the van after the show..
Oh, any surf music will work for me!
You gonna post Hawaii 5-0?
