HAPPY 79TH BIRTHDAY RINGO!! RANKING IN ORDER THE SONGS RINGO STARR SANG WITH THE BEATLES

Happy 79th Birthday to Ritchie Starkey.

During The Beatles history- drummer Ringo Starr sang eleven songs. The rule generally was Ringo would sing a song an album- of course this wasn’t always the case. The best songs from Ringo were ones that John or Paul wrote for him. Ringo was not much of a songwriter and he was aware of that- he did write two of the songs he sang- Don’t Pass Me By and Octopus’s Garden. Four of Ringo’s songs were cover songs. Ringo knew his strength’s and weaknesses he looked around and could see John and Paul were two of the greatest songwriters ever- he knew he wasn’t going to compete with them for songs and George came on as a songwriter during the second half of The Beatles. In a band full of huge ego’s you needed a Ringo. Ringo was the perfect drummer for The Beatles- and those who think he was just along for the ride I’ve always thought were wrong. If they had kept Pete Best behind the drums it is my thinking-they would never had made it. Ringo was the superior drummer and he added something else to the band- chemistry. He fit right in with John, Paul and George. He was an outstanding drummer- and the world’s most famous drummer- I wonder how many people became drummers because of Ringo? Here is my ranking of the songs Ringo sang with that little outfit called The Beatles.

11. “Honey Don’t”

10. “What Goes On”

9. “Matchbox”

8. “Don’t Pass Me By”

7- “Good Night”

6- “I Wanna Be Your Man”

5- “Boys”

4. “Octopus’s Garden”

3- “Act Naturally”

2- “With A Little Help From My Friends”

1 “Yellow Submarine”

    • Same here! It is good to see he is still out there touring and seemingly in great shape at his age.

  1. Yeah a good drummer but as a singer….ouch. With a little help…is the only one that really works for me. But you’ve got to love the guy for giving it a go and he did complete the chemistry of the band

    • I have to defend Ringo as a singer- was/ is he a great singer- no but he was adequate. Have you ever heard Keith Moon’s Two Sides Of The Moon? He was in a band with 2 great singers. If John and Paul felt Ringo couldn’t sing I don’t think they would have embarrassed The Beatles brand by letting him. Ringo had 7 Top 10 hits as a solo artist and 2 #1’s. I don’t think Jon Bonham or Charlie Watts ever got near a mic to sing for their bands. Now I can’t sing- although my wife once thought the Fred Astaire album I was playing was me singing…”Yellow Submarine” is one of the most famous Beatles songs–Ringo sang it! Ringo wasn’t that bad!! Just sayin’.

    • No harm in liking ringo…he’s good fun I like him too. I think the other Beatles gave him a few songs as a bit of fun. If ringo had Charlie Watts personality he wouldn’t have sung a note, his personality got him over the line – just….yellow submarine is a classic and a part of cultural and musical lives growing up so we have gotten used to that voice of his. We hear it and think of that loveable rouge from the BEATLES….just a case of exact right place at the exact right time

    • Wouldn’t it be something if Ringo outlived all the rock and rollers from that era– like Jerry Lee Lewis seems determined to with those from the 50’s— last man standing…
