  • Manchester City won the FA cup beating Leicester City 1-nil at Wembley Stadium before 100,000 fans. Neil Young scored the only goal of the game in the 24th minute to win the match for Man City.

  • The President of Bolivia General Rene Barrientos was killed in a helicopter crash while make a farm tour of rural Bolivia. Barrientos had been a very lucky man up to this point- he had survived 21 aircraft accidents- 11 of them serious- before the unlucky 22nd. General Barrientos had been President since 1964. He was 49 years old. He was succeeded by Vice President Luis Adolfo who would only last 5 months in office before being overthrown in a military coup.

  • In France voters rejected President de Gaulle’s proposal to dramatically reform the government. More than 80% of the voters voted- with President de Gaulle losing by 1.5 million votes out of the 21 million votes cast. President de Gaulle who had been president since 1969 would resign the next day.

  • Born on Sunday April 27, 1969- turning 50 today is Corey Booker former mayor of Newark and current U.S. Senator from New Jersey. He is currently running for President of the United States along with about every other eligible democrat.
