1969 Song of the Day is “I”d Wait A Million Years” by The Grass Roots. The Grass Roots during their ten year career had 21 Billboard Hot 100 hits with 8 of those making the Top 40 and three Top 10’s- the Top 10 hits being “Let’s Live For Today” #8 in 1971, “Midnight Confessions” #5 in 1968 and “Sooner Or Later” #9 in 1971. In 1969 they had three Top 40 hits the biggest being “I’d Wait A Million Years’ which peaked at #15. The song was written by Gary Zekley and Mitchell Bottler. The album version of the song has a slow organ introduction and a longer fade out which makes the album version nearly a minute longer than the edited single. Looking over the list of Top 40 hits The Grass Roots had – I have heard most of them- I’ve never thought much of them- one way or the other- if one of their songs would come on the radio I would listen to it- but not something I’d actively seek out.
