ALBUMS-
- STEVE EARLE: TRAIN A COMIN’ : 1995: 5 STARS OUT OF 5 STARS: Steve’s comeback- a low keyed affair- one day I was at the record store and there it was hadn’t heard a thing about him since an earlier 90s article in Spin outlining his fall into drug addiction. This is a great album and while his back up bands have always been stellar this one- with great bluegrass musicians- Peter Rowan, Norman Blake and Roy Huskey- with Miss Emmylou Harris singing back ground vocals can’t be beat. Saw him on this tour and it is one of the best shows I’ve seen.
- GEORGE HARRISON: LIVING IN THE MATERIAL WORLD: 1973: 4 STARS OUT OF 5 STARS: It was 2 1/2 years before George followed up on All This Must Pass. The album went to #1 as did the single “Give Me Love Give Me Peace On Earth.” Other highlights- The Light That Has Lighted The World, Who Can See It, Living In The Material World- and on the re-issue-bonus songs- the Bangladesh single and Miss O’Dell.
I really like the Bangladesh single – doesn’t come up much.
I got Train a Coming at a workplace auction for a quarter and had never heard of Steve Earle at the time. I sure was missing out. I really appreciated Hornby’s section on Earle in Songbook. Do you have that CD (transcendental something) he was talking about? I will have to listen to the George CD tomorrow. Time to move on in the box set. That reminds me, I love what Hornby was saying about box sets lol
Transcendental Blues- is my favorite Steve Earle album. Came out I believe in 2001.
