It was fifty years ago- December 1968- Time Magazine-{ back then it was the Man of the Year -today it is Person of the Year} named the Apollo 8 astronauts- Frank Borman, Jim Lovell and Bill Anders their Men Of The Year. They couldn’t have made a greater choice- the Apollo 8 mission saved a terrible year. They could have given the award to the thousands involved at NASA who worked together to make this mission the success it was. Many believe that the Apollo 8 mission was the most important mission of all. It was the first to send human’s out of the Earth’s gravitational pull and on to new worlds- orbiting the Moon and paving the way for the Moon landings more than six months later.
