The Beatles Song Of The Day– Cry Baby Cry

The Beatles Song of the Day is Cry Baby Cry. Cry Baby Cry is on side 4 of The Beatles and was written by John Lennon. John saw an advert that went ‘cry baby cry, make your mother buy”  a line which stuck with him. While in India he worked on the song and then finished it back at home.  The song is partly based on a nursery rhyme ‘Sing A Song of Sixpence”, the advert and a school yard taunt- “cry baby cry, stick a finger in your eye, and tell your mother it wasn’t I.”  John would later call it ‘a piece of rubbish.” I think it is better than that. Kind of a creepy  and haunting song which isn’t necessarily bad. At the end of the song- it’s really not part of the song is Paul singing “can you take me back where I came from? can you take me back?- which lasts 28 seconds. John Lennon: vocal, acoustic guitar, piano, organ: Paul McCartney: bass: George Harrison: lead guitar: Ringo Starr: drums, tambourine: George Martin: harmonium: Produced by George Martin.

Cry baby cry
Make your mother sigh
She’s old enough to know better.
The King of Marigold was in the kitchen
Cooking breakfast for the Queen
The Queen was in the parlor
Playing piano for the children of the King.
Cry baby cry
Make your mother sigh
She’s old enough to know better.
So cry baby cry.
The King was in the garden
Picking flowers for a friend who came to play
The Queen was in the playroom
Painting pictures for the children’s holiday.
Cry baby cry
Make your mother sigh
She’s old enough to know better.
So cry baby cry.
The Dutchess of Kircaldy always smiling
And arriving late for tea
The Duke was having problems
With a message at the local Bird and Bee.
Cry baby cry
Make your mother sigh
She’s old enough to know better.
So cry baby cry.
At twelve o’clock a meeting round the table
For a seance in the dark
With voices out of nowhere
Put on specially by the children for a lark.
Cry baby cry
Make your mother sigh
She’s old enough to know better.
So cry baby cry cry cry cry baby
Make your mother sigh.
She’s old enough to know better
Cry baby cry
Cry cry cry
Make your mother sigh
She’s old enough to know better.
So cry baby cry.

    • He might have sued lol… He came to Nashville a few years before he passed and I almost went to see him…I kinda wish I would have.

    • The Beatles had to have put a lot of $$$$ in his pocket over the years. No doubt he would have sued- wise decision to drop it and just change it.

    • The Beatles pretty much sponsored the rest of his career… look at me…I would have just seen him…because…he shook the hand that shook the hand.

    • I think Howard Stern was big on the Maharishi… I liked Ringo leaving India first- not liking the spicy food- that just sounds like Ringo.
