Goal is to listen to 1500 different albums in a 12 month period.
TODAY listened to 8 different albums. Total for 118 days- 751- {Over the halfway point to 1500} on pace for 2323 different albums.

  • PAUL SIMON: SURPRISE: 2006: 4 1/2 STARS OUT OF 5 STARS: Brian Eno is added to the mix here- Simon’s first album in six years at the time and his best in since Rhythm Of The Saints. No hits on this but of course the style of music on the charts had long changed. Outstanding songs and performances- from one of my favorite songwriters.
  • JON SAVAGE’S 1967: THE YEAR POP DIVIDED: 2017: 4 1/2 STARS OUT OF 5 STARS: 48 songs from 1967- most of them rather obscure. This follows the book and double cd on 1966. I would hope this series continues as far as the music goes. I enjoyed the 1966 set better- a better mix of hits and obscurities. I just got this in the mail yesterday it needs more listening for sure.
  • JON SAVAGE’S 1967: THE YEAR POP DIVIDED: 2017:
  • ELTON JOHN: TO BE CONTINUED :  1990:DISC 1: 5 STARS OUT OF 5 STARS: Box set released in 1990- 5 hours 1 minute. 66 songs. Has the hits and key album tracks. Listened to it straight through and wasn’t tired of Elton at the end [like I was of Rod Stewart and his box set last week} Elton was at his best in the 70’s but still put out some good stuff later on. I was never a huge fan as to where I’d go out and buy all his albums- this box set gives me what I want for the most part.
  • ELTON JOHN: TO BE CONTINUED: 1990: DISC 2:
  • ELTON JOHN: TO BE CONTINUED: 1990: DISC 3:
  • ELTON JOHN: TO BE CONTINUED: 1990: DISC 4:
  • WILLIE NILE: WILLIE NILE: 1980: 4 1/2 STARS OUT OF 5 STARS: The overlooked-commercially at least- debut of Willie Nile. Another ‘new Dylan”-this album is full of energy and fine songwriting. Nile was thirty-two- his career really didn’t reach it’s zenith until he was in his 60’s.

  1. That Jon Savage compilation has an interesting set of songs. Savage is about 1 1/2 years older than me, but I suspect, that like me, a lot of these tracks he discovered later. Thanks for your posts, and it brings some past releases to my attention I would have otherwise missed.
