On this date in 1865, 152 years ago- and on a Good Friday, the 16th POTUS Abraham Lincoln was assassinated by actor John Wilkes Booth at Ford’s Theater in Washington, D.C. Although we know John Wilkes Booth was without doubt the assassin- there was a conspiracy involved. Vice President Andrew Johnson and Secretary of State William Seward were also to be taken out at the same time. The assassination of Seward failed and in the end no attempt was made on Vice President Johnson. If you haven’t been to Ford’s Theater put it on your list and if you are in Washington, D.C. be certain to go. I have been to Ford’s a dozen or so times- and it is on my Mount Rushmore of favorite Washington D.C. sites.
