On this day in 1962 the original bassist for The Beatles Stuart Sutcliffe died at the age of 21 of a ruptured aneurysm resulting in cerebral paralysis due to bleeding into the right ventricle of the brain in Hamburg, Germany.
Sutcliffe was an art school friend of John Lennon’s. He wasn’t a talented musician and he’d later leave The Beatles for his painting career. He was a very talented painter and may have ended up making a name for himself as a painter had he lived. Stu Sutcliffe was a member of The Beatles from May 1960 until July of 1961.
