On this day in 1929 George Herman ‘Babe” Ruth became the first member of the “500 Home Run Club” when he hit a home run off of Cleveland Indian pitcher Willis Hudlin at League Park in Cleveland. A local boy got $20 and The Bambino’s autograph for returning the ball. There are now 26 players in the “500 Club.” The Babe would finish his career in 1935 with 714 career home runs. Ruth’s Record would stand until Henry Aaron broke it in 1974.
