On this day in 1922 the Irish writer James Joyce published “Ulysses.” The groundbreaking novel chronicles the passage of Leopold Bloom through Dublin during an ordinary day, June 16th, 1904.
At the end of the 2oth century “Ulysses” was chosen by Modern Library as the greatest english language novel of the 20th century. I must confess I got my hands on a copy of “Ulysses” and tried to read it. I couldn’t get very far. I have no doubt that it is one of the greatest novels ever written but I would also bet it is one of the least read great books ever.
Haha. I’m glad I’m not the only one who couldn’t get through it. I’m taking an online lit course. Couldn’t get through “Lolita” either.
