100 Great Songs From The British Invasion: 1963-1966: Tired Of Waiting For You- The Kinks. Released in the winter of 1965- ‘Tired Of Waiting For You’ -became the biggest chart hit in the United States for The Kinks- tied with 1983’s ‘Come Dancing’ at #5 in the Billboard Hot 100. It would go to #1 in the UK Singles Chart. Ray Davies wrote the song on a train on the way to the recording studio- he would write the words in a coffee shop during a break in recording. ‘Tired Of Waiting For You’ was written before ‘All Day And All Of The Night’- but they released it after ‘All Day And All Of The Night’ due to its similarity to ‘You Really Got Me.’ Dave Davies would comment on ‘Tired Of Waiting For You’-The recording went well but there was something missing and it was my raunchy guitar sound. Ray and I were worried that putting that heavy-sounding guitar on top of a ponderous song might ruin it. Luckily it enhanced the recording, giving it a more cutting, emotional edge. In my opinion ‘Tired Of Waiting’ was the perfect pop record.

Just another top class song from the Kinks. At this stage Ray seemed to be able to knock off a masterpiece over a coffee. If not over breakfast he had it done by brunch.

Man, it’s been ages since I’ve listened to The Kinks. This was a treat on a cloudy Sunday afternoon.
