100 Great Songs From The British Invasion: 1963=1966. I Just Don’t Know What To Do With Myself’- Dusty Springfield. Dusty’s third single release- in June 1964- written by the great songwriting team of Burt Bacharach and Hal David- -it went to #3 in the UK. Released a year later in the US- it failed to crack the Hot 100. In 1966 Dionne Warwick covered it and had a #26 hit in the US with it- and in 2003 The White Stripes released it on their Elephant album- a #13 hit in the UK. Also- back in 1978 The King- Elvis Costello & The Attractions recorded it- I recall at the time wondering if that was a joke- but as we later found out- The King is a lover of all styles of music.

THIS didn’t crack the American Hot 100, yet Freddie And The Dreamers DID? I pity the teenage American record buying fools of the time…
