Hans Hot 100 Beatles Songs: #29:’ Don’t Let Me Down’
#29:’Don’t Let Me Down’- Written by John Lennon- to Yoko Ono. I think Paul McCartney later summed this song up well when he said that this was John saying to Yoko.- “I’m really stepping out of line on this one. I’m really just letting my vulnerability be seen, so you must not let me down.” ‘Don’t Let Me Down’ was the b-side to the #1 hit ‘Get Back’- I think it was a mistake not including this on the original Let It Be album. I prefer it’s raw nakedness to- ‘Get Back.’

I didn’t have a lot of 45s but I did have this one. I liked both sides but this song reached me as an 11 year-old. I could feel the vulnerability and relate to it. My folks had gotten divorced just a year earlier and my mom and us kids had had to move out and into a smaller house in a brand new neighborhood.
I never knew this was originally on the “Let It Be” album until I got “Let It Be… Naked” and it was on there….
It was left off the original- but Paul added it to Naked.. wise decision.
“Let It Be… Naked” was a wise decision. It was good to hear the songs without the Spector “wall o’ sound.” “The Long And Winding Road” minus all the orchestral additions gave me the chills…
