The 4th of 6 #1 hits by Paula Abdul. I must admit that when I started into the 90’s #1 hits yesterday and I saw Michael Bolton and Paula Abdul with the first two #1’s in the new decade- I considered calling this feature I have been doing now for 2 years – kaput. The #1 hits in 1989 were the worst -up to this point and then here comes Bolton and Abdul. Anyway…. there are some very good #1 hits coming up in 1990. Keep hope alive.
Yes I was just thinking we are in the middle of a dry spell here
Oh dear. Even the vid is comically bad.
For me, the pop charts took a sharp nosedive in 1992, from which they’ve never fully recovered. They were so lackluster that I stopped compiling a weekly list for more than 20 years. The years 2011-2015 were a bit better for the Billboard Hot 100, thanks to a few songs like Adele’s “Rolling in the Deep”, Gotye’s “Somebody That I Used to Know”, Bruno Mars’ “Locked Out of Heaven”, Lorde’s “Royals”, Pharrell’s “Happy” and twenty one pilots’ “Stressed Out”, but only a tiny bit.
