Originally a #12 hit for Laura Branigan in 1983- the song was originally to be done by the Norwegian death metal band- Air Supply- but when Arista President Clive Davis asked permission to change the lyrics Michael Bolton said ‘No’- so Davis moved on. In the hands of Bolton it became the first new #1 hit of the 1990’s- not a good way to start off a new year or a new decade. I never understood the popularity of either Bolton or his brother Kenny G.
Wait a minute. There were two bands named Air Supply and one was a Norwegian death metal band?? Or you’re joking a d I’m missing it
I am just goofing around… it was the ‘soft rock’ Air Supply who the song was originally meant for..
That what I figured but you never know! 😀
anything on Michael Bolton and Kenny G being brothers— and Don Ho and Julio Inglacious being brothers are also- in that category!
Yeah, Air Supply as heavy????? My brain reeled… Bolton might have the Led Zep hair but that’s as far as it goes.
There was a rumor- denied that Bolton auditioned to replace Ozzie in Black Sabbath… now I can’t imagine that.
When Bolton sang, he sounded like he was also going into labor or passing a kidney stone.
great way to describe it!
Bolton actually sang??? When?
Dreadful song. Unlistenable.
