Originally a #12 hit for Laura Branigan in 1983- the song was originally to be done by the Norwegian death metal band- Air Supply- but when Arista President Clive Davis asked permission to change the lyrics Michael Bolton said ‘No’- so Davis moved on. In the hands of Bolton it became the first new #1 hit of the 1990’s- not a good way to start off a new year or a new decade. I never understood the popularity of either Bolton or his brother Kenny G.
