#42: ‘Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band/ ‘With A Little Help From My Friends’- The only song from Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band that didn’t crack the Hot 100- ‘Lovely Rita’- I am considering the album opener- Sgt.Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band’ and ‘With A Little Help From My Friends’ as one entry since the songs bend in together. ‘With A Little Help From My Friends’ is one of Ringo’s Beatles signature songs- written for him by John Lennon and Paul McCartney. A great start to the most famous album of all times.

  1. When the album came out in 1967 I rushed to the Meldoy Shop at Northpark Center to buy it. My rock band, The Orphans set out to learn a few songs from the disc. Of course “Sgt Peppers Lonley Hearts Club Band” was the first, then ” I Get By With A Little Help From My Friends.” A few weeks later, we played a dance at the Richardson Rec Center and did those two songs. The teens loved it, as most of them had not bought the album yet, or even heard the songs on the radio. Another band in Dallas, The Dancing Bear, took it once step further and learned the entire album. My band didn’t cover a lot of Beatles because by that time, they were getting into multi-tracks and studio tricks that couldn’t be replicated live, so we and many other bands passed on their music, but still enjoyed it.

  2. Workman- like understated little song, you think on first hearing- then Joe Cocker took it to another level and you think ‘his is a pretty decent take-‘ but then that only highlights what a great song ‘Friends’ is.
