Prince Rogers Nelson was born in Minneapolis in 1958- died at that age of 57 in 2016. He had 53 Hot 100 hits with 33 making the Top 40- 5 #1’s ‘When Doves Cry’ and ‘Let’s Go Crazy’ 1984, ‘Kiss’ 1986, this single ‘Batdance’ from the Batman movie soundtrack and ‘Cream’ 1991. Prince ruled the 1980’s-his chart success seemed to vanish after the early 90’s.
it was a dark (k)night for music when this hit #1. Couldn’t resist that pun! REM had a go at the Batman theme, probably while very drunk and tired, but had the sense to only put it out as an obscure b-side. Prince might’ve done the same. Then again, he wasn’t dumb… it was a #1 hit!
