Originally a hit by Harold Melvin and The Bluenotes- #3 in 1972- that is still the go to version to me. Simply Red- aka Mick Hucknail was born in Manchester, England in 1963. Given the name Simply Red due to his red hair. 7 Top 100 singles with 5 making the Top 40- 2 #1’s earlier in 1986 the first was ‘Holding Back The Years.’
Simply huge here at the time; now rarely hear a note on the oldies radio.
Simply Red found fame in Europe not here.
Really nice cover of a great tune. Mick Hucknail’s voice is pretty impressive. Simply Red’s first album “Picture Book” was pretty popular in Germany at the time. I loved it as well but haven’t listened to it for many years.
