#45: ‘ We Can Work It Out’- one of the great Beatles stand alone singles- the double A sided ‘We Can Work It Out”/’Day Tripper’ was released in December 1965. ‘We Can Work It Out’ went to #1- ‘Day Tripper’ #5 [ while I obviously love both songs ‘Day Tripper’ will rank higher in the Hans Hot 100] ‘We Can Work It Out’ was a rare for this period- Lennon-McCartney song which they both contributed. As John would say in an interview near the end of his life- it was Paul being positive- and John taking on the more negative. The song was started by Paul- and Paul would later admit that it may have been about his relationship with Jane Asher which was going on at the time.
