Richard Marx had 3 #1 singles -the other two ‘Hold On To The Nights’ earlier in 1988 and ‘Right Here Waiting’ 1989. His first seven hits made the Top 10- his first dozen hits made the Top 20. Not a good era-some of the artists hitting #1 in 1989- Dick Marx, Milli Vanilli, Paula Abdul, New Kids On The Block-all had 2 or 3 #1 hits that year. Sad state of affairs.
Oh, one of my favorites! And the summer of 1989 was the summer I was 18 and what fun it was!
I liked Richard Marx’s music well enough, though I never thought his songs deserved to be #1. I’m sure part of his popularity was due to the fact he was cute. But I like him on a personal level, as he’s an outspoken critic of Trump, and I love how he skewers MAGAs on social media.
don”t know much about him– except his mother was from a nearby town- and passed away recently.
