This is incredible- the first of six #1 hits by Paula Abdul- a pop dance ‘singer’ and choreographer. Six #1 hits hard to believe. She’s doesn’t have much of a voice- or singing talent but from 1988-2009 she had 15 Hot 100 singles with 11 making the Top 40. 6 #1’s.
This was an interesting song when it first came out. It’s been played to death.
You are so right. Her voice is whiny and tinny and thank the music gods for auto tune.
While Paula A. was cute and seemed sweet & likable enough, I never understood her massive popularity either. I agree with you that she was not a good singer, and her songs were all mediocre. As I commented on one of your previous posts, 1988-89 is when pop music really accelerated on a downhill slide, from which it’s never recovered.
One of my FAVORITES and I’m not bothered by any lack of talent. This was the 80s
